BLAIR: Humphreys are not escort material.
DAN: Let’s see if we can change that stereotype.

The thing that strikes me most about the MET steps scene is the way Blair just seems so overwhelmed by the gesture and by him.

playthefoxx:

She barely seems to be able to mumble out the words.  All we hear is that barely heard ‘thank you’ it seemed to encapsulate everything she’s not ready to say yet and everything she’s been through this year.  She had some time to think and I believe (but hey it might just be in my head!) it wasn’t the vanity of being a princess but the loss of one of her lifelong goals and “one more thing to mourn” tells me she was just reflecting on all she’s lost and been through this year. (I would have loved more obviously, for the miscarriage not to be glossed over but with this show there is somewhat of a case of get what you’re given)  “What if I lose everything?” ”You’ll still have me.’” come to mind. Blair feels like throughout this episode she is losing something (I think by the end she realises that in fact she’s gained something) letting go from those dreams. She has forever created these constructs in her head of how she pictures her life to be and adapts them accordingly- “you act like you’re in this movie about your perfect life”(Serena 1.13) With Nate, with the Prince clearly, again with Chuck (this whole notion that she will be the Queen of this empire, that they are partaking in some epic romance, filled with empty words like ‘magnetic’ so that it’s okay that happiness isn’t part of their story, that they don’t actually work as a couple)

These stories that she creates enable her relationships to go on, allow problems to go on un-fixed. The stark reality is too much, isn’t something she wants to live in. But I feel like the moment Dan takes that picture of her, and they smile at each other, finally her reality is far more appealing that the dream she’s about to let go of. And he’s very real, I find it amusing when people say he is the safe choice for her, he may provide her with comfort and safety but he really is  such a risk. Just in the sense that he is everything she thought she didn’t know she needed. He isn’t part of her plan. She has strong feelings for someone that isn’t Chuck which means everything she’s convinced herself of these last few years, that Chuck was her only option, the only one who would love her, that her and Chuck are inevitable. All that goes out the window, and that’s terrifying. Because what happens now? Dan means ties to Serena issues. He’s become her best friend and getting into a relationship with him, means if things don’t end well losing something she’s really come to treasure. Yet in spite of all those things, she’s finally ready and more than willing to go on the untread path rather than the film script in her head. It’s such a watershed moment for her.

I’ll point out the sadness of his hair, clothing, and Brooklyn roots. And he will decry my constructive criticism as snobbery. We’ll share our views on recent French cinema. And there will be no kissing!

Dan & Blair as WHMS (X)

#adversary to ally to reluctant friends to each others solace to best friends #and then they fell in love #friendship set on fire #there really is nothing better #how can this not be THE love story of this show #especially two characters who have always been somewhat lost #Dan was labelled ‘lonely boy’ #even if he wasn’t alone throughout the series it seem at times he was just floating about yet to find something that was missing #and Queen B surrounded by people but forever lost and lonely #which is probably why she holds onto the familiar-Chuck #so convinced that without him she’d be unloved #that she was fundamentally unlovable #and then here comes Dan someone who had no reason to be her friend other than he wanted to #no obligation-history-family ties #he went to that movie with her because he wanted to #he went to that exhibit with her because he wanted to #he was there her every step of the way because he wanted to #she’s never probably felt like she’s had that before #these two people from different walks of life #neither feeling completely comfortable in their own skin #finally finding someone who eases those insecurities rather than exasperate them like their past paramours just by their nature tended to #they have someone who doesn’t want them to change yet helps them grow #that’s love man #getting to a place where all the exterior bulshiz doesn’t matter #knowing someone to their core and loving them for it #they are the point of this show dammit #brooklyn v ues #getting past preconceived notions and uniting these two worlds #I’ve never seen them as at peace or as bright as in their scenes together #they are IT
